The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in one of Richmond’s finest establishments preserving and exhibiting art of all forms. It sits in the heart of the museum district offering contemporary and modern backdrops for photographers. Emily and John chose the VMFA for their engagement session because of their affinity for art. It’s also meaningful since they met in Richmond – it’s a place both familiar and special to their relationship.

The Greatest Catch

After meeting through mutual friends at a barbeque party, Emily and John hit it off instantly. John took Emily fishing in Newport News only after a couple weeks of dating. He had been trying to catch fish in the reservoir for over an hour when Emily decided to try her luck at fishing. On her first cast, she caught a largemouth bass. It was then and there that John said he fell in love with her. From that day forward, he knew that Emily would always be his greatest catch.

The Proposal

Eight years later, John was ready to take their relationship to the next level and ask Emily the most important question in his lifetime. He had the perfect proposal planned  out at a picturesque overlook tower in Woodstock, Virginia, however, luck was not on his side that day. After coming down with the flu, plans took a drastic turn. He couldn’t wait any longer, so he got down on one knee and asked outside on their back porch. She said yes, of course!

To Laugh and to Love

Audrey Hepburn said it best, “I love people who make me laugh. I honestly think it’s the thing I like most, to laugh. It cures a multitude of ills. It’s probably the most important thing in a person.” To laugh together is to grow old together. Laughter will always be the best medicine, and the recipe for a lasting marriage. John’s sense of humor is what attracted Emily to him. His humor soothes her when she is stressed. While Emily is a planner, John tends to be more spontaneous and carefree. They balance each other with their strengths and weaknesses.

To Have and To Hold

Emily and John will officially tie the knot in March at Havana 59. They are most looking forward to calling each other husband and wife. They are ready for the next step into marriage. Can’t wait to witness and photograph their special day in a few short months!

HI SUNSHINE!

I'M NICKI

I see the beauty in imperfect things. As a Christ-follower, faith is central to my life, work, and connections. I am fueled by joy, known for my bubbly and sunny disposition, and always with a warm hug. Imperfect beauty inspires my love for all things vintage, abstract art, and real love stories. I love moments full of grit and emotion; life off the beaten path; stunning views along the shore; and the juxtaposition of New York grunge and laid back Cali-vibe.

As a mother of two, I am very familiar with how quickly life’s most important moments fly by too quickly. I will calmly and seamlessly guide you through frames that will endure. I strive to capture your memories with one-of-a-kind images full of meaning. I cannot wait to connect with you!

I bring all of these elements to my time with my couples. With over a decade of experience in the industry, I know how to gently guide you through poses that are natural and beautiful. The transition into this sentence doesn’t make sense. Throughout your day, you will feel the love from those there to celebrate
 you two.
When I’m not photographing weddings, I enjoy long walks in the neighborhood with my husband, my kiddos Tuxie and Sunny, and my labradoodle Hokie.. Also, I am a huge dog-lover! I’m pretty sure heaven is full of dogs. I can’t wait to connect with you, and yes, your pup is always welcome here!
