Virginia engagement photos during the fall season call for a refined and sophisticated location that evokes the history and culture of the region. For a moment of celebration, I met with Kandis and Jacob outside The Branch Museum of Design to capture their engagement.

Though the weather may bring a chill during fall and winter in Virginia, it’s no reason to forgo scheduling your engagement photos. There are many ways to enjoy your session, all while embracing the weather and capturing this exciting new milestone in your lives together.
As a Virginia engagement photographer, I always provide my couples with recommendations on attire suitable to the season that looks natural and sophisticated for their images. I also speak with my couples about locations that may work best to draw out the details of their love story.
For some couples, that may be their home, while other couples enjoy an open, outdoor setting that embodies organic details in a pastoral setting. For Kandis and Jacob, we chose a location with significance.
The Branch Museum merges the past with the present in a classic architectural structure, all in all becoming the backdrop of their engagement session. We also worked together at a second location. A nearby park where the couple could bring their dogs to participate in the photoshoot.
Embracing Fall with Virginia Engagement Photos at the Branch Museum
As is true of the fall weather in Virginia, the sun often hides itself away. In lieu of golden light, cloudy, gray skies hang overhead. However, as a local photographer who is all too familiar with nature’s version of hide and seek, there are a number of ways to curate engagement photos that feel fresh and full of life during any season.
For Kandis and Jacob, when I captured their Virginia engagement photos around the facade of The Branch Museum of Design, I first focused on the organic elements in bloom. There were bountiful, delicate rose bushes and an abundance of greenery all within reach, adding fresh life to each of their photos.
With my sweet couple dressed in creamy white tones and our natural backdrop, I focused on making their session feel timeless, in a sense, but also centered on their love story. Holding hands, walking together, exploring the area, and fully immersed in each moment, with this time belonging solely to them.
This allowed Kandis and Jacob to become playful, laughing without a care in the world. From the steps of the Branch Museum to an adjacent park, Kandis and Jacob enjoyed every aspect of their engagement photoshoot, delighting in the season and allowing me to guide them at every turn.
