HOLY COW- I CANNOT STRESS ENOUGH TO BACK UP YOUR PHOTOS.
Please, if you have had it on your mind to back up your images and then say, “Ahh, I’ll do it tomorrow, make that tomorrow TODAY”. You never know what could happen to you computer and you could lose precious images into NO MANS LAND. You could have the most high tech, bomb computer and you spill water on it or you could get your computer stolen. I recommend several back ups and even back ups of your back ups (confusing I know). Point being- make sure you have several back ups and spread them out. I have my images backed up on 2 external hard drives, online, and then on my computer and honestly- thats still not enough in my mind.
When I was first starting college and moving I had a HUGE bulky IBM computer in my trunk. Was it the safest place to put a computer? Mmm probably not but we all have to learn a lesson or two in life right? I was inside unloading some stuff, came out a couple of hours later and SOMEHOW that sucker was gone. The saddest part was not that my computer was stolen but all my images from when I first started shooting were on there. Luckily I had some images printed but still. I can’t emphasize this enough- back your images up! Below are some links to some hard drives I really like but there are so many awesome ones out there!
PS- You never know when a bride or groom is going to come back a year or two later asking for a copy of their wedding images because they “accidentally lost them”. How awesome of a photographer are you if you can simply help them out because you backed them up?
