If you’ve seen Dirty Dancing then you’ll remember the quote from Patrick Swayze – “Nobody puts baby in the corner“. Well, I just want to say, “Nobody puts the groom in the basement“. I am beginning to see a common theme on wedding days where the groom gets ready in either the basement or a room that is not well lit. Now I know the bride is the top dog but man, the groom is top priority too!! As a photographer, (having an eye for what looks good) we need to step up BEFORE the wedding day and make sure the groom gets a well lit, nice room to get ready in. I’m thinking of adding this to my questionnaire I use before as a friendly reminder 🙂 . Honestly, I always feel horrible every time I see a groom shoved in a closet-like room. I am like, “Uh, wait…is..this…uh… where the groom…is getting READY?“. Have no fear- there are ways to make this look good! Sometimes you have to work with what you’ve got and adapt. Once your groom is half way dressed pull him into a well lit hallway with some nice window light to get that gorgeous glow. If you are going to ask him to step into a hallway there MUST be a window, and simple background. Make sure that the bride is NOT around, and that he is mostly dressed! I can assure you – your pictures will turn out much nicer than they would be when taken in the dungeon.
