I have to admit, as a local engagement photographer, there’s something extra special about photographing couples whose story feels so deeply rooted in the city they call home. Rachel and Grant’s engagement session and love for their city is exactly that.
They may have officially met on Hinge, but their connection actually goes much further than they initially realized. They were both born and raised in Richmond and grew up in the same part of town. In fact, as it turns out, their families had known each other for years. At one point in time, their oldest siblings used to carpool together to swim practice in elementary school. For some couples, their love stories really do come full circle.
Their First Date
Rachel and Grant’s first date was the perfect Richmond evening. It began with drinks at Can Can Brasserie, moved on to dinner at Uliveto, and finished with a nightcap at Fanboy. Since that fateful evening in February of 2024, they’ve been inseparable. They jokingly say they’ve been together “2 years, 2 months, 22 days, but who’s counting”; it’s obvious every moment together has mattered.
Rachel & Grant’s Proposal Story
The couple’s proposal story sounds like something straight out of a movie. During an impromptu weekend getaway to Folly Beach, Grant planned a sunset proposal overlooking the iconic Morris Island Lighthouse.
With champagne in hand and a hidden photographer and videographer team safely tucked away in the dunes, he asked Rachel to marry him as the sun set over the water. But it wasn’t much of a surprise, because Rachel absolutely knew it was coming.
According to Rachel, Grant was acting “extremely nervous” the entire weekend, and she knew something was up. Especially considering that planning something so romantic seemed slightly out of character for him. Though she had an idea of what was to come, they both look back on the moment fondly, calling it unforgettable and “perfectly them”.
