I got up this morning, ran out to Seven Eleven to grab coffee (Its my new fave) and came back and sat down in front of my computer. It was time to review the photos from this weekend. I had two very special events this weekend.
My first event took place in Harrisonburg, Virginia. Kim & Tyler Martin were gettin married! Yayy! The Martin family has been a special family and VERY dear to my heart. I was ABSOLUTELY HONORED to be photographing their wedding. After the beautiful wedding (tons more photos to come) Dre & I drove back to Richmond around 10:30. Getting back around 12:30 we hopped in bed because we had to get up at 4:45 to make it to Virginia Beach by 7:15 (crazy huh)? We were going there to shoot the Capernaum 5k Race (blogpost coming soon). I sit here this morning, staring at the photos, listening to music, and I CRY (not because I’m tired haha) but because I am touched.
I thought, THIS IS WHY I DO WHAT I DO.
Lately, I had been asking myself the question, WHY DO YOU DO WHAT YOU DO? As my business develops, I want to give people a genuine answer and I don’t want to just say, “I love being a photographer because I like to take photos”. This is true, don’t get me wrong, but its SO MUCH MORE. I FINALLY FIGURED IT OUT THIS MORNING.
I DO WHAT I DO BECAUSE I LOVE TO SEE GOD’S LOVE IN ACTION. I love to be a part of God’s love, I love experiencing it. If I can freeze that moment where God makes an appearence I know I have done my job. I believe Heaven is a place we go but MAN, God gives us GLIMPSES of what its going to be like. ITS NOTHING BUT LOVE because THATS HIS NATURE. I hope I’m making sense. When I get to experience God up close moving around me I am almost brought to my knees, no joke. Its such a beautiful thing.
Dre caught this photo of me and it makes me smiling because I know what I was thinking in that moment. I was touched by Tyler & Kim. Thanks Dre!
As Kim was walking down the isle she was crying, and boy did she create a wave of criers. I looked around and EVERYONE was crying.
I will never know what Kim was thinking when those tears were falling but I sense it was an overwhelming feeling of love for Tyler.
Kim & Tyler were so happy to be married and were so pumped to be walking down the isle as Mr & Mrs. Martin.
The second photo got me worked up because the boy is so happy. It took one selfless act of kindness from this runner to bring a smile to this boys face.
They both experienced joy. THAT JOY made me JOYFUL.
In conclusion, my weekend was fabulous, and there was a lot of happy tears. I do what I do because I love photography and its my passion. I do what I do because it makes others happy & I capture their memories but mostly – I DO WHAT I DO because I WANT TO BE PART OF SOMETHING BIGGER THEN ME AND THAT IS GOD’S LOVE ON EARTH. If I can show that in my photos then I have done my job. I hope you have a great week, and HAPPY MONDAY!
