It blows my mind how God works in each person’s life. There are close to 8 billion people in this world and God gets personal with EACH person in a unique way. Well God used my dog to teach me a valuable lesson – God’s way is the BEST WAY. This is truly an embarrassing story but a lesson I NEEDED to learn.
Over a year ago we decided we wanted a labradoodle so we contacted a breeder I had really liked in Ohio. We went on her waiting list and had first pick. In my mind, I had a vision of what I wanted; tan, super curly hair, dark eyes, black nose and black paws. The typical color of a lab right? I was so excited, we were going to have the perfect looking puppy! The puppies were born and there were two blacks, a chocolate and a tan. We went with the tan and I was so excited I couldn’t contain myself. She sent us our first picture of our dog. I opened my email with excitement and saw the dog and I was stopped in my tracks (again, I promise I’m not superficial). The dog had BLUE EYES.
I thought, I really wanted the typical looking doodle. I started obsessing over these dog’s eyes. I showed people the picture of the dog and everyone said that puppy’s eyes were normally blue and they would change (a sigh of relief). She continued to send us more pictures and his eyes weren’t changing. The truth is, they freaked me out a little bit. Have you ever seen the movie the Exorcist? HER EYES. Okay, okay, thats a little extreme but thats what I was thinking. Everybody told me I was crazy and that I needed to let it go & that he was perfect. We drove up to pick him up and he was BEYOND PERFECT. Every inch of him. Of course, when you are made by the creator of the world you ARE going to be perfect!!
Fast forward over a year and half later and I cannot go on a walk without being stopped by someone loving on Hokie. And do you know what is the first thing they say to me??? “Oh my gosh your dog has the prettiest eyes!!!”. . . “Look at those eyes, he’s gorgeous!”. I kid you not, ALL OF THE TIME.
There are a few takeaways from this story: First, God has a sense of humor. I obsessed over the stupidest thing and now God makes it known wherever we are that our dog has the “prettiest eyes”… I hear God quietly chuckling to Himself. 😉 Secondly, we “think” we know we know whats best for ourselves but God always rocks our world with his MIND BLOWING plans. I love my dog so much and yes his eyes are his most beautiful feature. I wouldn’t have him any other way!
God’s way is THE MOST PERFECT WAY.
