Working to capture Richmond newborn photography, there are some sessions that linger in my heart. Baby Eliana’s photoshoot, in-home, with her mom, dad, and furry sibling was one of them. This cozy at-home newborn session took place in Church Hill, one of our city’s most historic and beloved neighborhoods.
As a Richmond, VA newborn photographer, it’s always an honor to be welcomed into my family’s homes. Spaces where love, character, and personality envelop a warm, inviting setting and where memories are created in the flow of day-to-day life.
This sweet, tiny girl, with her expressive eyes and diminutive features, is already a presence to behold. As I worked with this loving family and their adoring presence throughout the photoshoot, I was all too aware that every image we captured was a moment suspended in time. A reflection of what it would feel like to look back and recall what it felt like when she was still so small and swaddled safely in her parents arms.
Eliana’s Presence was a Long Awaited Arrival
Without a doubt, Eliana’s Mom & Dad would describe her as their long-awaited arrival. “We waited a while to try for a baby,” her mom shared. Once they did try, it took just over three 3 years to conceive. Feeling as if the joy of adding a baby to their family might not be written in the stars for them, they were overwhelmed with happiness to find out they were finally expecting.
Eliana’s name means “my God has answered” in Hebrew. The moniker is a perfect reflection of her parents’ long yet hopeful journey. While also serving as a reminder of what a blessing her arrival was.
Capturing Richmond newborn photography, parents often share with me their journey to expand their family and the hopes and dreams that carried them there. Hearing their story while simultaneously meeting their sweet baby allows me to approach their session in a meaningful way. Creating photos that a family will share and celebrate in the years to come.
Finding Joy in the Smallest Moments as New Parents
As I worked my way through their home, focusing on a lifestyle approach to their newborn photography in Richmond, more details about the journey to parenthood were shared. Including how this sweet family of four finds joy in the everyday moments and the small details. Eliana’s mom confides in me that it’s been fun to watch her baby grow, including how Eliana recently started smiling and expressing a range of emotions.
I quietly tucked this shared note away as I continued to photograph. Focusing on those little newborn details that will inevitably change with time. Tiny toes, little fingers, soft skin, and peach fuzz hair. All of Eliana’s characteristics that her parents cherish, carefully preserved through photos.
Honoring the Transition to Parenthood with Richmond Newborn Photography
As a mom myself, I understand all too well that the journey of parenthood is an ebb and flow of transitions. One that takes place slowly, over time. Bottles and diapers become goldfish crumbs and cheesesticks. Baby soft toys and sensory objects are replaced by books and blocks. Rocking chairs and sleepless nights become bedtime routines and big kid beds.
All we ever have with our children is the here and now, the presence of their current being. No matter they stage they are in. Moments are fleeting and the seemingly mundane becomes the memories we hold on to over the years.
