A summer wedding at Oakdale RVA filled with light, warmth, and romance.
Virginia summers are uniquely fortuitous for hosting an alfresco wedding. You get to say I do in a beautiful outdoor space filled with greenery as the summer sun glistens in the backdrop. Erin & Nathan hosted their summer wedding at Oakdale RVA. The bride joked that their reasoning for planning a summer wedding was that Nathan looks amazing all dressed in blue. In truth, that was really only part of the reason for their decision. When planning their wedding day, they began by selecting a color palette of soft & airy greens and blues. Hues such as sea glass, moss, and eucalyptus were sprawled across their mood boards. The idea was to create a summer wedding that evoked the impression of the season. Soft earthy tones paired were paired with boho elements, such as pampas grass, to pull together their wedding day experience.

Erin and Nathan’s weekend celebration included personal details throughout to shower their guests with gratitude. Specific attention was paid to the members of their wedding party and immediate family. For the groomsmen, there were whiskey glasses and personalized socks that included a specific image that tied into Nathan’s fondest memories of them. For Erin’s bridal party, there were gorgeous earrings & matching PJs to wear while getting ready with the bride on the morning of her wedding. Parents were gifted privately with sentimental items to shower them with love in return for the support and guidance they have provided Erin and Nathan with over the years.
But, one of the things that Erin and Nathan did so beautifully was exchange vow books with one another before meeting down the aisle. Erin described it as a deeply personal moment. I have to admit, this small but meaningful action produced the biggest emotions from the bride and groom when it was time for them to meet at the ceremony. Reciting vows during the wedding ceremony is such a sacred moment for many couples. However, being able to see your spouse’s handwritten vows, ahead of that moment is a beautiful expression of love.
